Provincial Champs Once Again!!

The Centre Wellington Mohawks u17 Field Lacrosse team travelled to Brampton, Ontario in order to compete in the Ontario Field Lacrosse Provincial Championships.   For many years, the Mohawks were unable to have enough players registered in order to have a team in this division, however, for the players who participated this year the results were truly golden.

    The team started their tournament on Saturday with an impressive 15-5 win against the number three team from Oakville .  On Sunday the rain started to flow, but the wins kept on flowing as well, with victories over Kingston and Northumberland; 14-4 and 15-1 respectively.  

The last game of the round robin was a must win against Mimico and both teams had identical 3-0 records coming into that game.  The winner would advance on to the final and battle for either gold or silver.  It was a close battle for the first 30 minutes and the Mohawks were able to enter the intermission with a 5-4 lead after scoring a goal with 5 seconds left in the half.  The superior conditioning of the u17 squad along with stellar goaltending from Jacob Hayne and defensive stalwarts Josh Klages-Parisotto, Aiden Kelly, Caleb Willmets and Jonah White managed to shut out the Mimico squad in the second half to win 14-4 and capture a spot in the finals ,

The winner take all final was against an undefeated Caledon squad who had rolled through their competition all weekend.  The field conditions were not perfect, but the start from the Mohawks was. The attack and middies were able to score quickly and often, and the defense and goaltending sacrificed their bodies and demonstrated their skill in order to open the championship tilt with a 5-0 lead after the first quarter. The lead would extend to 7-0 before the Bandits from Caledon were able to sneak one by the CW tender.  The victory would not be denied and the Mohawks managed to capture the D championship with an impressive 13-6 victory.

The offense was potent all weekend and were led by the following players:

Points- Jayden Bushey 22 goals 12 assists, Nick Aitchison 23 goals 4 assists, Carter Hyndman 9 goals 6 assists, Ryan Biggs 6 goals 9 assists, Kyle Detweiler 3 goals 5 assists, Ryan Litt 3 goals 3 assists, Jonah White 2 goals 2 assists, Caleb Willmets 1 goal 3 assists, Bryce Williams 1 goal 2 assists, Josh Klages-Parisotto 1 goal 1 assist, Aiden Kelly 1 goal 1 assist, Nolan Purdy 1 goal 1 assist, Jacob Hayne 2 assists 5 wins.
