Getting Back Was Only the Beginning
Your CWMLA executive has been working tirelessly to bring lacrosse back to the community of Centre Wellington for 2021. Both extremely excited and nervous at the same time knowing that we will be back playing in just 6 short days!
We held a meeting last night with the other centre's in Zone 8 that have joined us for this year's RTA programming -- Guelph, Cambridge and Kitchener-Waterloo.
One of the hot topics included was RTA for Cambridge and Kitchener-Waterloo. While they remain in Stage 1 of reopening, how can we adjust programming to include them, but only once the appropriate safety protocols have been determined.
With registrations in hand and expected teams at play, the schedulers will be drafting a preliminary schedule. We have tentatively targeted: U9, and U13's for Monday and Wednesday night. The U11, U15 and U17's will play on Tuesday and Thursday night. Additional playing time and practices will be at the coaches discretion.
Your home fields will be behind the Fergus Arena! Guelph's facilities include St. James and St John's as well as the Puslinch outdoor box. Cambridge is focusing on St Benedict's field, with Doyle field as a backup. Finally, KW has secured two outdoor boxes in Mary Hill, and Conestogo.
Play will be modified contact per Ontario regulation. Players at the U9 and U11 level will likely want full equipment, and U13 above will likely play with gloves, slash guards, and helmets. We want to encourage skill over contact as we return to play for the love of the sport.
Here's to 2021 Lax to the Future!
