CWMLA To Change Their Name
The Centre Wellington MINOR Lacrosse Association has begun the process of changing their name and logo.
It has always been understood that the use of the Mohawks name and logo for the MINOR association that was created when Fergus Minor Lacrosse and Elora Minor Lacrosse amalgamated 10 or so years ago. It was intended to honour our indigenous ancestors who have shared with the world the fastest game on two feet, and Canada’s Official summer sport.
Paradigms change however, and while our intent was always pure, we understand now that the Mohawk name and logo may no longer accurately reflect the honourable intention it originally had. We would not want this to ever be an impediment to someone playing this great game, so it has been decided that an update is in the best interest of all MINOR LACROSSE members of the association.
Public input for our new name will be sought through our website, social media channels, and the local press beginning in early February of this year. The association expects to announce its new name in the spring of this year.
The full implementation of our new name and logo will be dependent on current grant applications as well as the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
