The 2017 CWMLA executive wanted to take a moment to congratulate all of our membership on a great 2017 Campaign.  We feel that overall it was a very successful year for the Mohawks.  A big thank you goes out to all of the coaches, trainers, and managers who dedicated countless hours to give the kids an opportunity to play this great sport here in our community.

We also wanted to pass along a thank you to all of those of you that volunteered at our Scott Gerrie Lacrosse tournament.  Once again it was a great success raising upwards of $12,000 to go back to the organization.   Well many of you are starting the long season of hockey the work is just beginning behind the scenes for the 2018 lacrosse season.  With that being said we are looking for  new volunteers to fill positions on the board.  This is a great time to give back to the youth and be a part of a fun and energetic board that focuses on the kids who share the same passion for lacrosse.     Centre Wellington Minor Lacrosse is in need of a few more volunteers to complete the Executive Board for the 2018 Season. It takes many hands to provide a place for kids to play!

Do you have a skill to bring to the table that can help?

Do you have a few hours to volunteer, or would you be willing to give a few hours when an extra set of hands are needed?

Positions that are to be renewed for the 2018 season: President, Treasurer, Secretary and Scheduler.  While a number of members are returning we have a few members that will be moving on to other positions (some within CWMLA and some within Zone 8).

Appointed positions

Information about our current members of the Executive.

President- Steve Kelly

How long you have been involved with CWMLA? My son has played since 2007 and is moving into his last year (Midget) with CWMLA. I have been a part of the Executive since 2011.

Positions held within the Association? Head Coach, Asst Coach/ Trainer 2009- Present, 2011/12 Equipment Manager, 2013 Rep Director, 2014, 15, 16 President. Also Zone 8 Field Lacrosse Liaisons 2016

Why you are involved with the association? Even though I never played lacrosse I have a deep passion for the game and love watching all the kids play.  I do this to make sure we keep this sport strong in CW as it has a very long history within the community.

What have you accomplished or hope to accomplish as being a member of the Association? One very large accomplishment at a personal level was being part of the coaching staff that won Tyke "B" Provincials in 2010.  My hopes when I became President in 2014, was to keep CW growing within the game.  I feel we have accomplished that and more, we have numerous Provincial Championships at all levels.  We have never had less than 15 teams per season in the past 5 years; which makes us the largest centre in Zone 8.  For the amount of people who reside in Centre Wellington we are a small community but in 2015 we managed to put an "A" team in every division from Tyke to Midget at Provincials that was a huge success.  I have sat on many committees at the OLA level trying to make improvements to the game; which I believe we have.

What do think you bring to the table for experience?  I can say that my strongest points now would be the knowledge I have gained over the years through our Past President Dean Harrison and also at the Zone level and OLA level.  I know the ins and outs of the OLA probably better than they do! I find it important to have strong ties with other Associations to help be able to grow the game, I have numerous people I call friends from all over the OLA.

Vice President – Kasey Beirnes

How long you have been involved with CWMLA? 5 years

Positions held within the Association? Peanut/Paperweight Director, Vice President (3 years)

Why you are involved?  My reason for being involved is that lacrosse has given me so much opportunity in life.  I think the kids in Centre Wellington deserve the opportunity to have the ability to play lacrosse at all levels in our own community.  The enjoyment I get out of it is seeing how happy the kids are when they are at the arena playing the sport.

What you accomplished or hope to accomplish?   My goal for lacrosse in this area is to see the numbers of participants in lacrosse rise.  It is a difficult task with all of the options available for the kids.  So creating an environment where they want to play and continue to play is the overall goal.

What you bring to the table for experience.

Registrar- Jennifer Adams

How long you have been involved with CWMLA?  1 year

Positions held within the Association?   Registrar

Why you are involved with the Association?  I have two little boys that love the sport, I am not an athlete myself and respect all the time that Coaches and Bench staff provide to my kids so this is my way to give back.

What you accomplished or hope to accomplish within the Association?    I just want to use the skills that I have to provide back to the organization. I hope to be active enough in the positions so that I can offer recommendations to the registration process of where it can be improved, assisting both our families and our volunteers.

I have been the Director of Paperweight Lacrosse, Representative Lacrosse Director, Boys Box Lacrosse Representative Director and Coaches Liaison.

I am involved to give back to an amazing sport that has given me so much. I am involved to meet the wonderful people and visit the beautiful places I do.

I have learned so much from the people I have met through lacrosse and had the opportunity to pass on so much of that knowledge.

I have experience playing lacrosse from peewee to Sr. B. I have coached 16 different lacrosse teams from peanut to Sr. Woman’s box lacrosse for 5 different associations (Elora minor, Fergus minor, CWMLA, London minor and Burnaby).

I have been fortunate enough to win two provincial championships, one in box and one in field, both as a player.

Served on the Board since 2015 as Girls Rep Director.

Involved because my 3 kids love the sport and I want to help make sure it is always available for them.    Concentrating mostly on the girls teams because they struggle to put together teams every year.  I have raised awareness that girls can play in their own division.  I hope to get a full roster in every age division within the next few years.

Peanut/ Paperweight Convener- Tabitha Fleming

I have been involved for two years; I took care of the peanut and paperweight groups.

I'm involved because I love lacrosse and want to see as many kids participate and succeed as possible!

Working with Kasey we agreed to try a new program for the older group and it was a huge success we organized it and it ran smoothly. I would like to see this program run going forward as it really does help the kids so they can be in the game sooner. Most other centres have both ages in a select program and that's how they are getting ahead and ready sooner. I can't wait to see what next year holds! I have been raised with lacrosse I have helped with many teams I have my training for trainer and I really enjoyed this year helping with the younger crew. I also have experience in sales, fundraising, advertising, and could help in many ways.
